Abstract

The research aimed to describe the employment challenges and opportunities encountered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology graduates of 2023. A descriptive phenomenological approach was utilized to explore the experiences of the first batch graduates of the Nuclear Medicine Technology program in DLSMHSI. Four participants took part to the research and were selected through purposive and convenience sampling. A self made questionnaire was employed for the interviews conducted in this study, through online meeting platforms. Findings revealed that participants were able to experience employment challenges and opportunities. The findings of the study described that the major employment challenge experienced by the participants is the lack of a professional license. The participants of the study faced difficulty obtaining employment in government and public institutions since the PRC license is a mandatory requirement for these institutions. Additional findings include limited availability of the job market and skill gaps that directly contribute to the struggles of the batch 2023 Nuclear Medicine Technology graduates. Furthermore, the new graduates were presented with opportunities that would increase their probability of securing employment. This includes both pre-clinical and clinical internships in forming the employability and clinical readiness of NMT graduates, the certification from PNRI that serves as the primary credential despite lacking PRC, and most opportunities are presented through referrals.
