Abstract
All children aged 3-5 years living in Sitio Bisaya, Dasmarinas, Cavite in 2012 without a previous diagnosis of any ocular disorder or vision impairment and whose parents consented for the inclusion of their child in the study. The prevalence of visual impairment in this study is 8.9% with majority belonging to the 3 year old group. Three out 4 patients with visual impairment were malnourished with one overweight, another stunted and the other severely stunted. The prevalence rate was higher than the national prevalence rate for visual impairment of 0.43%. These children with visual impairment were all asymptomatic and were referred to the Department of Opthalmology for further evaluation.
