Abstract
The objective of the study is to determine the validity of a hematologic scoring system in the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis in patients (0-28 days old) admitted at DLSUMC. All neonates admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatric wards at DLSUMC with clinical suspicion of neonatal sepsis. The study included two groups: Group 1 patients clinical sepsis with HSS of >3 and group 2 patients with clinical sepsis with HSS of < 2. The study concluded that the hematologic scoring system alone cannot precisely diagnose neonatal sepsis. Blood culture is still the gold standard and should be performed in all suspected cases.
