Abstract

This case report describes a case of 9-year-old male with JDM who initially presented with atypical skin lesions. He had tender nodular lesions, non-healing skin ulcers and later developed Gottron's papule. He also developed blurring of vision and severe abdominal pain. He had muscle pain and joint swelling and eventually had proximal body weaknesses. Upon treatment with antibiotics nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids , his condition considerably improved with regain of physical strength, vision and resolution of the rashes. This report emphasizes that close monitoring is important so as not to miss this rare condition. Prompt recognition of rheumatologic conditions important for immediate referral, early treatment and better outcome.
