Feasibility of an innovative assessment tool for residents performing basic laparoscopic surgery

Abstract
This study reviewed laparoscopic cholecystectomy cases done by general surgery residents in De La Salle University Medical Center and use the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS) checklist and global rating scale to review the feasibility of the assessment of surgery residents. The surgeons showed an average score of 97% in the PSGS checklist, while they showed an average score of 76% in the global rating scale. Both surgeons were able to complete the laparoscopic cholecystectomy without any injuries intraoperatively.
