Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the predictors of difficulty in the performance of thyroid surgery in DLSU Medical Center, as determined by the Operative Time, Blood Loss, and Number of In-Hospital Days. This will also compare the performance of residents-in-training and attending surgeons in thyroid surgeries in DLSU Medical Center. The study concluded that expertise had the most significant effect on total time, blood loss and number of in-hospital stay. Age, sex, and laterality of the thyroid gland had no significant effect. The rest of the independent variables in combination with expertise also had a significant effect on the thyroidectomy outcome.
