Association of pre-pregnancy body mass index on the risk of pregnancy induced hypertension among women with polycystic ovarian syndrome

Abstract

This was a retrospective cohort study involving a total of 192 subjects who delivered at De La Salle University Medical Center from 2010 - 2020 and met the inclusion criteria. Among the 192 patients included in the study, mean age of the respondents was 30 years old. A majority of the population had: Normal BMI (50%), irregular menstruation (86%) and had no ultrasound findings of PCOS (55%). Association between Normal (18.5-22.9) and Abnormal BMI (< 18.5 and >23) a RR of 31% statistically significant decreased risk of having PIH among those in the abnormal BMI group. It was also noted that there is a 75% statistically significant decreased risk of PIH among the underweight group relative to the patients in the normal BMI group. However there was 9% increased risk of the PIH in the above normal BMI group relative to the normal BMI group. However result was not statistically significant.
