Abstract

The study utilized the descriptive-correlational non-experimental research design using purposive sampling technique. Respondents of the study included 100 respondents' surgical nurses to handle patients with COVID-19 or handle surgical patients during the pandemic. the study was conducted in a hospital in China. The researcher used a three-part questionnaire . The following statistical tests were used in the study: frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), t-test for independent means, Chi-square, Kruskal Wallis H test, Mann Whitney U test and Kendall rank correlation coefficient. The study concluded that, 1) Demographic profile showed that a majority of the respondents was Bachelor's Degree holders, aged 31-35 years old, female, married, worked for 6 to 10 years, 2) The respondents showed high knowledge of the prevention and control of COVID-19 infection in the surgical room, 3) The respondents have a good practices to prevent and control COVID-19 infection in the surgical room, 4) There are no significant differences in the knowledge of the respondents on prevention and control of COVID-19 in the surgical room when they are grouped according to sex. On the other hand, in terms of age, significant differences existed between 21-25 years old and 26-30 years old and 21-55 years old and 31-35 years old, 21-25 years old and 36-40 years old, 21-25 years old and 41 and above. In terms of educational background, respondents who were master's degree holders showed better knowledge compared to respondents who were bachelor's degree holders. In terms of length of service, significant differences existed between 1-5 years and 6-10 years, 1-5 years and 11-15 years, 1-5 years and 15 years and above, 5) There are no significant differences in the practices of the respondents to prevent and control COVID-19 in the surgical room when they are grouped according to sex. On the other hand, there were significant differences in the practices when the respondents were grouped according to age, civil status, educational background, and length of service. In terms of age, significant differences existed between 21-25 years old and 26-30 years old, 21-25 years and 31-35 years old, 21-25 years and 36-40 years old, 21-25 years and 41 and above. Married respondents had better practices compared to single respondents. Respondents who were master's degree holders had better practices compared to respondents who were bachelor's degree holders. In terms of length of service, significant differences existed between 1-5 years and 11-15 years, 1-5 years and 15 years and above, 6-10 years and 11-15 years, 6) There is a significantly high positive relationship between the knowledge and practices of the respondents to prevent and control COVID-19 in the surgical room.
