Abstract

This paper used a cross-sectional study. This study selected 100 ICU nurses from Shanghai hospitals designated to treat COVID-19 clients as survey subjects using the total population sampling method. This study used a self-made questionnaire to survey ICU nurses who have cared for COVID-19 clients. For data analysis, this study used the statistical methods of mean, standard deviation, t-test, analysis of variance, frequency, factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha. The study concluded that, 1) The ICU nurses caring for clients with COVID-19 are dominated by married female nurses working in an eight-hour shift and have been in the hospital for less than six years. They come from nuclear families and in the found stage, with a family income of 6001-9000 CNY as well as >1500 CNY, 2) The overall health status of the ICU nurses caring for COVID-19 clients is poor, mainly manifested in the physical, psychological and social domains, with special attention to weight loss, difficulty of breathing, and low morale. Meanwhile, spiritual health is good with special emphasis on the feeling of being loved and having inner peace that contribute to very good health status, 3) There were heterogenous responses in the overall health status of ICU nurses when grouped in terms of sex, civil status, family income, type of family, stage of family, length of service, and hours of duty, 4) The 6-month health promotion program is focused on the overall health of ICU nurses caring for COVID-19 clients. It was designed to address areas where health status is poor particularly in the physical, psychological, and social domain, while the spiritual domain may still be improved. Its objectives are to improve the physical, psychological, and social health of ICU nurses from poor to very good health status and make the state of spirituals health change from good to very good health status through the project proposal, creation of ad-hoc team and focus group discussion, with special attention to weight loss, difficulty of breathing, and low morale, which may be incorporated in the policy and service.
