Abstract
This study used a non-experimental, quantitative research design particularly descriptive approach. In the study, samples were obtained through purposive sampling and the information on the quality of life of older persons with lower limb fractures after orthopedic surgery with rehabilitation nursing was gathered through the following instruments: the researcher-constructed participant's data sheet and the WHOQOL-BREF. The study was conducted at the different wards in an orthopedic hospital in China. The study involved 243 older persons in-patients who were recovering from the lower limb fractures. The main statistical tools used were percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, Slovin's formula, t-test for independent samples and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The study concluded that, 1) The respondents in the study were between 64 to 75 years old (youngest-old), mostly females, married, lived mostly with spouse in their own house, attained secondary professional school and accessed health care though indirect payment or insurance and were compliant with the treatment, 2) In terms of length of work experience, most of the respondents have worked for 6 years and above as rehabilitation nurse, 3) The rehabilitation nursing service provided is 29-day program, the types of orthopedic procedures performed are: (1) fracture reduction and fixation, (2) joint replacement, (3) open drainage (joint open drainage), (4) arthroscopic debridement, 4) In general, the quality of life of the respondents were interpreted as fair. as to its different facets, physical and social quality of life were found to be poor while psychological and environmental quality of life were fair, 5) There were no significant differences in the quality of life of the respondents when grouped according to age, sex, civil status, living arrangement, level of education and degree of adherence to the treatment. And significant differences on the quality of life were noted in terms of civil status, level of education and access to health care services.
