Abstract

Sleep deprivation and academic demands are known to be the biggest issues among students, but there is limited knowledge about how these issues, together with their impact on the emotional well-being of Filipino senior high school students. This research set out to investigate the impact of academic demands and lack of sleep on self-respect, stress management, and behavioral patterns. With the qualitative phenomenological approach, six students were interviewed and their stories were analyzed in a thematic manner. Findings indicated that chronic academic demands and insufficient sleep resulted in self-doubt, irritability, demotivation, and the use of maladaptive coping mechanisms like procrastination and cramming. At the same time, respondents mentioned protective factors such as time management, support from family and peers, and positive thinking, but they did not use these consistently . The findings ultimately establish that a lack of sleep combined with excessive workload undermines students' emotional control and general well-being. The research emphasizes the importance of institutional policies and individual coping strategies that ensure equitable workloads, sound sleep habits, and facilitative environments in order to maintain both scholarly performance and emotional health.
