Abstract
The Philippines, like other countries, has never fully reached the Sustainable Development Goal- Gender Equality goals, and sexism remains a prevalent issue. This paper aimed to determine how sexism affects the aspirations of Senior High School students of De La Salle Medical Health Sciences Institute. Using simple random sampling, six participants were chosen to be interviewed out of 48 individuals. The researchers used thematic analysis to observe patterns of both similarities and differences of their answers. The findings of the study are as follows; (1) The most common form of sexism the students encounter is stereotyping. (2) Students have stated that sexism negatively affected their confidence and motivation, that lead to discouragement and self-doubt which also weakened their academic drive. Respondents who did not note any negative effects were unaffected. (3) Students used strategies to cope with the sexism they experience in daily life.
