Abstract
Music, as a universal language, has long been associated with its potential to influence learning abilities, yet the impact of contemporary genres like Korean Rhythm and Blues (K-R&B) on learning remains underexplored. This qualitative study explores the perceived impacts of Korean Rhythm and Blues (K-R&B) on the learning abilities of Grade 12 Health Science students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. Employing a narrative approach and thematic analysis, the research investigates how K-R&B influences comprehension, memory recall, retention, and application during study sessions. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with five participants selected via criterion sampling. Findings reveal that K-R&B’s calming melodies enhance focus and retention for some students, while others report distractions due to lyrical content or dynamic rhythms. Additionally, factors such as emotional resonance, familiarity, and social influences shape the genre’s use as a study aid. This study highlights the potential of K-R&B to create a conducive learning environment when aligned with individual preferences, offering insights for both students and educators seeking effective study strategies.
