Abstract

This study assessed the correlation between DLSMHSI-SHSSHS students’ dependence on ChatGPT and their academic performance. A convergent mixed-method was utilized to determine the relationship between ChatGPT dependence and academic performance. The data was gathered through a survey containing questions measuring students’ dependence and ChatGPT usage. The survey also included open-ended questions that gathered students’ perceived impact on their academic performance. This study concluded that ChatGPT is a useful academic aid that can enhance students’ productivity and learning experiences when used responsibly. However, it does not directly influence academic performance. Its effectiveness depends on how students balance technological assistance with their own effort, discipline, and critical thinking. Therefore, ChatGPT should be regarded as a complementary educational tool, one that supports learning, but cannot substitute genuine understanding and academic integrity.
