Abstract

This research study explores the level of awareness of the senior high school students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) regarding the availability and accessibility of school-based mental health services provided during the school year 2024 - 2025. Recognizing an increasing prevalence of mental health disorders among adolescents, this study aims to assess the knowledge of the existing school-based mental health services upon their relevance, and its interest to be utilized. According to different related literature that supports this research study, the current state of awareness in school-based mental health services is due to the lack of promotion and the lack of interest of students in counseling. In order to scale and measure its level of awareness within the institution, an online survey questionnaire with a 3-point Likert rating scale that consists of 8 questions each was utilized in a category that determines the level of awareness towards the existence of the school-based mental health services with the mean average of 1.37, whilst a 5-point Likert rating scale that consists of 7 questions each was utilized in a category that determines their curiosity affecting their level of awareness of the school-based mental health services with the mean average of 3.50, then carrying out interviews from the senior high school students to gather the qualitative data to garner their specific perspective and side that tackles this research study. The results indicate that although a significant portion of students recognize the significance of mental health services, their awareness regarding the school-based mental health services available within the institution is still somewhat constrained. This research suggests the need to promote the services of the SWGCD to address the current awareness gap and promote the overall mental well-being of the students in the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute.
