Abstract

Health EduKOLs are healthcare professionals who “influence the opinions, attitudes, beliefs, motivations, and behaviors of others” (Valente & Pumpuang, 2007, p. 1). Thus, this study aims to determine the impact of Filipino Health Education Key Opinion Leaders on the possible motivation towards behavioral change of DLSMHSI Senior High School Students. The sequential explanatory method was used in line with the Health Belief Model. An initial survey questionnaire was conducted to determine the respondents who fall under the inclusion criteria of must have seen or exposed to Filipino Health EduKOLs more than 5 times and have personally noticed that they have been applying procedures or techniques taught by the Filipino Health EduKOL. The findings suggested that most students believe Filipino Health EduKOLs have a positive impact on their health knowledge and actions. Despite the presence of symptom searching and self-diagnosis, most respondents rely on Health EduKOLs as they are easily accessible online and are influenced to act. Respondents ensure they take into consideration the credibility and educational background before believing in the Health EduKOLs. This study recommended conducting the study on a different age bracket, specifically adults, to compare and identify if they are more motivated to change their behavior. This study also recommended monitoring the influence of the Health EduKOLs for a certain period and selecting a different set of Health EduKOLs that are different nationalities.
