Abstract

Parental alcoholism is when a parent drinks immoderate alcohol which also affects themselves and their family dynamics. The study aimed to know about how the said parental problem can affect the life of a late adolescent. The researchers of this study explored the experience of a late adolescent who’s living with an alcoholic parent. The researchers did a semi-structured interview where the participant was asked a series of questions such as the start of the alcoholism in their perspective, their life experiences with an alcoholic parent, and how parental alcoholism changed their decision-making as well as their emotional behavior. With all the data acquired from the aforementioned questions, the researchers analyzed it in accordance with the Case Study Analysis. The findings suggest that a late adolescent living with an alcoholic parent can affect their lives in many ways, including their decision-making, emotional behavior, while also causing trauma to them. The researchers recognized that all the information within this study will be used by other researchers in the future. Moreover, this study shall give attention to the people especially the adolescents who have bad experiences living with an alcoholic parent their whole lives. This study can also give healthcare providers some information about what treatment they need to do with a patient that has the same problem or a similar one. This paper focuses on the impact that parental alcoholism has on adolescents and stresses the need to come up with a support system for adolescents facing such an ordeal. It emphasizes the need for treatment for minimizing the effects of alcoholism in families. The study makes a contribution to the current understanding of alcoholism’s impact on families.
