Abstract

Today’s generation across all ages use Facebook everyday for more than the recommended screentime for children, teens and adults. Several reasons may range from updating news, for communication, or for entertainment. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Facebook usage on how Senior High School students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) affects their study habits. Using quantitative approach, the researchers focused on finding out how Facebook affects time management and study habits. Results show that with a mean average of 3.42, Facebook usage emphasized on collaboration and resource sharing. While most respondents answered that they were more productive in terms of academics when Facebook usage is avoided with a mean average of 3.08. The same is true that Facebook use affected their ability to accomplish academic requirements on time. In terms of time management and Facebook usage, most respondents deviated towards disagree and strongly disagree with a standard deviation of 0.65. While interestingly, most students in Senior High School of DLSMHSI responded with academic productivity is least affected with Facebook usage with a mean average of 0.83. With these results, it is important to note that Facebook and study habits of SHS SHS have strong correlation with a value of =0.654 and time management with =0.763. This study concluded that Facebook can positively impact study habits through proper time management and set study habits. Facebook can be a tool which support students in terms of academic collaboration and resource sharing.
