Abstract

Students as of late are observed to be lacking in Physical Exercise, a fact supported by the World Health Organization (2022) which stated that 80% of adolescents do not meet the recommended guidelines on Physical Activity. In an effort to find the root of this issue, this study explored the relationship between the motivation of the participants to exercise and the emerging factors that affect said motivation identified by the researchers. In order to gather the necessary data for this paper, a convenience sampling method was used to pick out 200 respondents. The data gathered underwent analysis using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney u-test. The data showed that the majority of the participants exercised moderately with a frequency of 1 to 2 days every week and that they performed these exercises at home. Furthermore, the data gathered showed that the emerging factors with a high degree of influence are sedentary lifestyle and social media usage, academic pressure had a low degree of influence, and the gamification of physical exercise had no significant influence. The researchers found that the emerging factors identified varied in how they affected the motivation of the students participating. The knowledge of the effect of a sedentary lifestyle and the use of social media motivated them to exercise more, academic pressures motivated them to exercise less, and the gamification of physical exercise had no significant effect on their motivation to exercise.
