Abstract

Catcalling is a type of harassment that affects a lot of people and can impact them after experiencing it. Acknowledging concepts toward catcalling differs to every individual, especially senior high school students. The experiences of catcalling varies to senior high school students, and impacts may affect how a student behave. Extensive studies about the outcomes of catcalling to men and women, viewing both sides, as well as the perpetrator, but studies have payed less attention on how catcalling affects a person’s emotional wellbeing and their post behavioral reactions. As the research examined the influence of catcalling on their behavior and emotional health, the study employed purposive sampling in the dissemination of questionnaires to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. The data analysis focused on a qualitative study, and narrative research was used, thematic analysis were utilized to to discern and derive themes from a one-on-one interview. The study was done in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, and grade 12 senior high school students as target participants. The data analyzed were interpreted and divided to different themes, identifying such as offensive, mental distress, emotional turbulence, behavioral changes, altered self-perception, and gestures. Based on the data collected, different experiences were shared, the toll of catcalling varies to each student. Mostly the data showed impacts negatively. In conclusion, catcalling causes impacts on an individual’s behavior especially on their emotional health and behavior, implementation of regulations, and services to help lessen the negative effect of catcalling to emotional health and behavior.
