Abstract

Basic life support is a first-aid measure provided to victims who are in a life-threatening situation such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or obstructed airway. Utilizing this measure is important as it helps reduce mortality rates, especially in emergency cases related to the heart. A quantitative approach was used in this study to assess the level of knowledge, perceived skills, and attitude of basic life support as a first aid measure among non-health allied undergraduate students in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Data was collected using a thirty-five-item selfmade instrument that were distributed through an electronic survey. Results showed that the respondents possessed an average level of knowledge, perceived skills, and attitude toward basic life support. It was found out that there is a negligible difference between the competencies when the respondents were grouped according to demographic profile such as sex, year level, course taken, and school enrolled. However, a significant difference was observed when the respondents' level of knowledge was grouped according to their age. The findings of the study imply that there is a need to promote basic life support and its importance to non-health allied undergraduate students, through education, information dissemination, and creating programs related to basic life support.
