Abstract
In this study, bioluminescent bacteria were isolated from squid samples to be able to determine its inhibitory activity on gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Squid ink was extracted from 10 squid samples and was streaked on standard marine agar plates that contains various chemicals incubated for 18 hours to isolate the luminous bacteria. In a 5mL marine broth, bioluminiscent bacterical isolates were cultivated and centrifuged at 5000 rpm for 5 minutes. Well diffusion method was used showing visible lawn of bacterial growth after incubation. It exhibited a zone of inhibition with 16.17mm and 17.39 mm as its average diameter against staphyloccus aureus pathogen and a diameter of 12.5mm and 13.44mm against Escherichia coli for 18 and 24 hours of incubation, respectively. Evidently, an inhibitory effect as potential antibacterial agent against test pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli, was exhibited by the bioluminiscent bacteria.
