Abstract
The researchers determined the level of cadmium, zinc and lead in a three kilogram sample. The presence of heavy metals in Perna viridis (Asian Green Mussel) was tested using Inductively Coupled Plasma in the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC) in Quezon City. The results showed that a trace amount of Cd was present in the three kilogram sample of Perna viridis amounting to ,0.02 mg/Kg. A trace amount of Zn was also present amounting to 10.40 mg/Kg. Similarly, a trace amount of Pb was present amounting to ,0.1 mg/Kg. The Perna viridis bought in Bacoor City were safe for consumption given that the person does not exceed the FDA's Provisional Tolerable Dietary Intake Level.
