Abstract

This study utilized a comparative experimental design. The samples of the fruit and the antibiotic ciprofloxacin were subjected to tests that determined the bacteria's resistance and the numerical values that resulted in experimentation were compared with each others using a quantitative data analysis strategy. The researchers conducted the research in the research laboratory of the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) - Angelo King Medical Research Center wherein the antimicrobial properties of the kamias fruit extract and ciproloxacin was observed and compared in inhibiting the enterotoxigenic strain of E. coli compared to that of the ciprofloxacin which had slightly inhibited the growth of the bacteria. Statistical treatments done showed that there was a significant difference between the antimicrobial activities of the two subjects in inhibiting the E. coli and is evident in the results of the susceptibility test. Through there was significant difference between the antimicrobial activities of the two subjects, the E. coli sample was considered resistant to both the specimens since the mean zone of inhibition for the kamias fruit extract was only 0.53 mm while for the ciprofloxacin it was only 6.47 mm which were both classified under the category resistant based on the zone diameter interpretative standards for E. coli table.
