Abstract

This study explores the different perceptions and attitudes of the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute Speech-Language Pathology Faculty on the Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programs in Education. The study was guided based on the objectives to investigate the perspectives and attitudes on the use, advantages, risks, and ethical implications of the SLP faculty members regarding the use of Al in SLP education. The study utilized qualitative phenomenological research to determine common themes, producing a descriptive outcome. A semi-structured Interview was done and a total of five participants were interviewed from the DLSMHSI SLP Faculty. Six (6) themes were derived from the transcripts—Varying Attitudes on AI Integration in SLP Education, Faculty AI Training Needed for Effective AI Integration, Over-Reliance on AI Risks Hindered Student Skill Development, Clear Ethical Guidelines Necessary for AI Use in SLP Education, Limitations of AI, and AI Integration is Perceived as Beneficial, But Conditional. Collectively, the participants highlighted the need for the development of clear guidelines, the advancement of research initiative on ethical use of AI, and the enhancement of AI knowledge through implementation of faculty training programs.
