Abstract
Socio-demographic variables included age, gender, educational attainment, and monthly family income. It utilized correlational research design to meet the objectives of the study. Using quota sampling technique, the respondents of the study were 387 residents of selected five (5) barangays namely; Poblacion, San Antonio I, Salcedo II, San Rafael III, and Sta. Rosa I whose age ranges from 30 years old and above. This study used a self-made questionnaire to find out the level of awareness and preventive practices on hypertension among respondents. Data was analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent means, ANOVA and Spearman’s Rho. Based on the results, 1) most of the respondents are 30-40 years old, male, attained high school level, with a monthly family income of Php 10,000 and below belonging to below poverty level; 2) the respondents have moderate awareness towards hypertension; 3) the respondents often practiced the preventive practices for hypertension; 4) the awareness on hypertension does not vary when the respondents are grouped according to age, gender, and monthly family income but it varies with regards to educational attainment; 5) preventive practices regarding hypertension do not vary when they are grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment, and monthly family income; 6) the awareness and preventive practices are significantly related. As the awareness increases, the preventive practices increases.
