Abstract

Socio-demographic variables include age and educational attainment. The descriptive method was used in the study. Using purposive sampling technique, the respondents were 400 women aged 16 and above who were pregnant during the particular data gathering procedure and who were availing free pre-natal check-ups from the City Health Office. The data obtained was analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and ANOVA. Results showed that, 1) most of the respondents are 26-35 years old and have attained high school education; 2) generally, the respondents have moderate level of awareness on the effects of second hand smoke to their unborn child; 3) the respondents' age has no relationship to their level of awareness on the effects of second hand smoke to their unborn child; 4) the respondents' educational attainment is directly related to their level of awareness on the effects of second hand smoke to their unborn child. This means that, the higher the educational attainment of the respondent is, the higher would be her level of awareness on the effects of second hand smoke to their unborn child.
