Abstract

The study used a descriptive correlational research method involving a sample of 1,500 respondents residing in Dasmariñas City, Cavite whose ages are 18 years old and above. Respondents were identified using non-proportional quota sampling. A self-made questionnaire was used to measure the perception of selected respondents of Dasmariñas City, Cavite. It consists of positive and negative statements representing the advantages and disadvantages of the Anti-spitting Act of 2012 and spitting in public places. The data gathered was subjected to different statistical treatments such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, analysis of variance and Person’s correlation coefficient. The results showed that (1) most of the respondents are female, has attained high school, belongs to 18 to 35 years old age group with a monthly family income of P10,000 and below and are considered at poverty level socio-economic status; (2) the respondents have a high negative perception on spitting in public places; (3) the respondents have a high positive perception towards the Anti-spitting Act of 2012. However, low mean scores were obtained regarding imprisonment and weak enforcement of the Anti-spitting Act of 2012; (4) regardless of age and gender, the respondents have the same perception on spitting in public places. Educational attainment and socio-economic status were significantly related to the perception on spitting of the respondents. Respondents who have attained a higher educational attainment have a high negative perception on spitting in public places. Also, respondents who have a higher level of socio-economic status perceive spitting in public places as high negative; (5) regardless of age, educational attainment and socio-economic status, the respondents have the same perception on the Anti-spitting Act of 2012 except for the demographic variable gender since female respondents have a high positive perception towards Anti-spitting Act of 2012 compared to male.
