Abstract

This study investigated the extent of implementation of quality control protocols for X ray machines and the challenges encountered by quality control officers in selected hospitals in Cavite. A descriptive research design was employed, using purposive sampling as the sampling method. A total of 29 hospitals and medical centers in Cavite participated in the study. A self-made questionnaire was used to measure the extent of implementation of quality control protocols for X-ray machines done on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual basis along with documentation and record-keeping. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Challenges encountered by quality control officers were also identified. The majority of the respondents were from private hospitals, predominantly operating under Level 2 X-ray services, and most utilized computed and digital radiography systems. The quality control protocols for both conventional and computed/digital radiography were found to be mostly implemented. Equipment and calibration issues, staff compliance and workload, documentation and reporting, operational workflow constraints, aging machines, inconsistent staff adherence due to time pressure, difficulties in maintaining accurate records, and disruptions to workflow caused by routine quality control procedures and limited equipment were among the challenges encountered in the implementation of quality control protocols for X-ray machines.
