Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge regarding the lifestyle habits and risk factors in developing thyroid diseases of third and fourth-year radiologic technology students at DLSMHSI, during the second semester of the academic year 2024 2025. This study utilized a descriptive quantitative research design using a self-made questionnaire. Using frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and chi-square test, results showed that the majority of the respondents are female, third-year students, and those without family history of thyroid disorder. The respondents have a fair level of knowledge of lifestyle habits and risk factors in developing thyroid diseases. Significant differences in knowledge of lifestyle habits were found when respondents were classified according to sex. Female participants demonstrated slightly greater knowledge of lifestyle habits, particularly in relation to perceived barriers, perceived benefits, and self-efficacy. Moreover, significant variations in knowledge of thyroid disease risk factors were observed based on medical history and year level. Respondents without a family history of thyroid disorders exhibited higher levels of knowledge regarding factors associated with the development of thyroid diseases, especially in terms of perceived susceptibility and perceived severity. Likewise, third-year students showed greater awareness of these risk factors compared to other year levels. Overall, the findings indicate that respondents possess a moderate understanding of lifestyle habits and thyroid disease risk factors, although further improvement is still necessary.
