Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the level of academic burnout of 291 radiologic technology students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute during the academic year 2022-2023 using a descriptive research design. The data were gathered using a self-made questionnaire and treated using frequency distribution, mean, one-way analysis of variance, percentage, and independent samples t-test.

Majority of the respondents are female and are first-year students; most of the respondents sleep between 4-6 hours and have a monthly family income between PHP 66,641 to PHP 114,240. Participants were chosen through voluntary response sampling.

The findings of the study indicated that most students experienced high levels of academic burnout in terms of emotional exhaustion, which is the third contributor to academic burnout and the principal dimension of burnout, reflecting psychological and physical exhaustion that emphasizes emotional exhaustion. As students' progress through their academic year level, they are more susceptible to academic burnout. In general, there are no significant differences in the level of academic burnout when the respondents were grouped according to sex, sleep hours, and monthly family income. However, significant differences are observed in the level of academic burnout when it comes to year level in terms of emotional exhaustion, reduced personal accomplishment, and depersonalization.
