Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the problems encountered during the clinical internship by the radiologic technology interns of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. A descriptive-quantitative research design was used in this study. The study's respondents are De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute radiologic technology interns enrolled in the 1st semester of A.Y 2022-2023. The data were collected from February 4 to 15, 2023, using a self-made questionnaire containing questions about problems encountered during the clinical internship in the areas of assessment, personal development, teaching and learning, facilities, curriculum, and support. This was answered by 97 participants. Statistical treatments such as frequency, percentage, and ranking were applied to the collected data.

According to the study's findings, majority of respondents were female, lived in their own homes, and were assigned to private hospitals. The findings also revealed that majority of the respondents did not encounter problem during their clinical internship. But despite that, it was revealed that there are respondents who had encountered problems during their clinical internships particularly on unavailability of imaging and therapeutic machines, equipment, and accessories, lack of mental support, lack of feedback from training officers regarding their clinical performance of the interns and the results of their assessments, outdated hospital equipment and accessories, and lack of provision in intern holding area. Despite the challenges of face-to-face learning, the participants expressed appreciation for this instructional method. They realized that they learn better with this set up, which effectively contributes to the appreciation of their program.
