Abstract
This study was conducted to describe the academic procrastination experiences of radiologic technology students enrolled at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute in the A.Y. 2022 - 2023. This study used a qualitative research design. Data was gathered through face-to-face interviews and were analyzed and interpreted using Colaizzi's Method.
The findings of the study show that the experiences of the participants with academic procrastination were overall complex and had different effects on them, where some viewed the experience in a more positive light as participants used academic procrastination as motivation to finish tasks on time and as de-stressor, while other participants viewed it more in a negative light, stating that it brought them guilt and unsatisfying grades. It was also found that there were many causes of academic procrastination, which varied among participants. By the end of the interviews, each participant realized that they wanted to cut the habit of academic procrastination but stated that they would not do it as of the time of the interview and instead opted to do it in the near future, their reasonings being that academic procrastination was still somewhat beneficial for them and their study habits.
Overall, the study recommends that there should be more of a focus towards students who are academically procrastinating through providing resources from the guidance counsellors, support groups for academic procrastinators in the same course, creating events where students from all year levels can connect and further research about towards lack of motivation.
