Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the level of awareness about radiation safety among 95 radiology support personnel (radiology nurses, nursing aides, clerks, orderlies, housekeepers, receptionist) in 29 hospitals and 1 clinic in Cavite. This study used a descriptive research design. Data gathering was done using a validated self-made questionnaire based on a radiation safety guide for ancillary personnel. The collected data were treated using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, for independent means, and analysis of variance (ANOVA).

The findings indicate that nearly the majority of the respondents are male, aged 18 to 30, and have been in service for 1 to 5 years. The data gathered revealed that the radiology support personnel are fully aware of radiation safety. Data also shows no significant difference in the respondents’ level of awareness when grouped according to sex and years of service. However, the data also revealed that there is a significant difference in the level of awareness of radiology support personnel regarding radiation safety when they are grouped according to age. This is observed due to the age group of 31 to 43 years old personnel having higher awareness as compared to the other age groups of 18–30 and 44–55 years old.
