Abstract

The objectives of the study were to explore both the positive and negative lived experiences as well as to describe the overall athletic performance of CALABARZON athletes with regards to mixed aquatic and land-based training. The study included ten participants: two from each province of CALABARZON.

The participants were subjected to online one-on-one interviews with a research assistant to be able to gather data. Once gathered, the data were analyzed using a descriptive phenomenological method. Data analysis showed the following findings: physical effects of mixed training, psychosocial outcomes, training demands, and accessibility of mixed training resources. The main findings of the study reflect the athletes’ shared experiences as to mixed aquatic and land-based training.

The findings of the study seek to reach athletes, physical therapists, academicians, sports coaches, and sports organizations to enhance mixed training regimes and to improve the experiences of athletes with regards to mixed aquatic and land-based training. Also, with the qualitative nature of the study, future research in the quantitative field focusing on mixed aquatic and land-based training in the Philippine setting may be needed.
