Abstract
The purpose of the study determined the personality profile of the graduating physiotherapy students of De La Salle University, the school year 1989-1990. To relate their personality traits to the characteristics and behavior particular to a physical therapist. The result of this study would serve as a guide for educators in the development of the field itself, as well as, one's colleagues, patients, and themselves. Sixty-five students, there were forty-three females and twenty-two males randomly chosen as the respondents to the study. Cattell's 16-personality factors (PF) test used as testing material, determined the dominant characteristics of the subjects. Researchers analyzed the results based on the tables for females, males, and different age levels that used. The personality traits ranked according to frequency, percentage and the most common identified either as negative or positive traits. Results showed those most common dominant traits of the subjects, less intelligent, concrete thinking, apprehensive, worrying, depressive, troubled, and others. Relating these traits to those perceived to be necessary for physiotherapist, these show that the personality of the physical therapy interns was unsuitable to their choice of profession. However, as many psychologists say, the person's personality make-up alters with age and experience and with varying situations and circumstances. Educators included acquainting learners with that particular profession, develop specific attitudes consistent with the profession and provide opportunities to both acquire knowledge and develop skills unique to that profession.
