Abstract
This study employed a descriptive design using a survey technique. A self-made questionnaire distributed to 20 respondents who were the primary caretakers of the stroke patients at De La Salle University Medical Center - Doctor Isagani M. Darvin Rehabilitation Unit chose simple quota sampling. The instrument translated into Tagalog and the data from the questionnaire tallied, tabulated, and analyzed using percentage and mean. Based on the conclusions, the researchers concluded, (1) the results showed that the primary caretaker of the stroke patient was their spouse, provided for the moral, spiritual and financial support. 1-3 hours, the average time devoted to the stroke patient, and such time usually spent in performing self-care activities for the patient. (2) This study focused on the family interaction of Filipino families with a post-stroke geriatric relative, where authors found out those family members seem to be unaware of their role in the functional recovery of the stroke victim. (3) Survival rates influenced by the patient's motivation, treatment adherence, and effective family interaction. (4) The importance of rehabilitation medicine stimulates the patient to set maximum goals to achieve higher functions physically, emotionally, and socially.
