Abstract
This study employed a descriptive design using a survey technique with a self-made questionnaire distributed to 30 Filipino stroke patients between 1988 and 1991 chosen through simple quota sampling. The data obtained using an interview schedule collected by mail or delivered personally. The instrument translated into Tagalog. The data from the questionnaire gathered, tallied, tabulated, and analyzed and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. The results showed the highest percentage of independence was a personal toilet compared with that of ascending and descending the stairs, which scored the least. The highest number of patients was under the category of moderately dependent (47%) and only 4 out of 30 fell below the level of independence.
