Abstract
A descriptive study regarding the current practice in maintaining the cleanliness of the paraffin wax bath in selected centers affiliated with De La Salle University - Aguinaldo. The survey instrument used to serve as a guideline in recording an informal interview with previous interns, revealed conflicting practices in cleaning the disinfecting paraffin wax bath between various centers and procedures recommended by well-published textbooks. This prompted the researchers to describe the prevailing practices in this aspect. Data obtained by both interviews and actual observation. Nine centers that rotated by the researchers from May to October 1992 included in the study and the results summarized. 1) The majority of the centers do not follow recommended procedures found in well-published textbooks. Only two out of nine centers always cleaned their paraffin wax, six out of nine centers had a wax that was already brown to black. Only one center out of nine centers cleaned the affected part first with soap and water before wax application. 2) There was no reported case of skin infection even in centers with grossly unclean units.
