Abstract
In the absence of a structured patient education program concerning proper neck care technique, the researchers together with the physiatrist developed a manual "Wastong Pangangalaga ng Leeg" in the hope, the manual could impart knowledge to the people concern and help them recognize the importance of neck hygiene. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the manual in educating patients with cervical pain on proper neck care. The researchers used descriptive design using the survey technique with a self-made questionnaire distributed to 21 respondents, in eight (8) different affiliation centers chosen through simple quota sampling. The instrument translated into Tagalog. The results from the questionnaire tallied, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. The data obtained by giving the patient a pretest before reading the manual and posttest after two days. The pretest and posttest correct answers compared to know if there was any significant difference in the scores. T-test used for testing the difference between two means on paired observations. Based on the computed T-value, researchers concluded, the manual was effective in increasing the number of the correct answer in the posttest. Researchers also found the average scores obtained during the posttest were 89% as compared to the pretest, which was 68%. The researchers could say that the manual was good in educating the patient regarding proper neck care techniques. The researchers hereby recommend for other experts of cervical pain in making a manual to validate the manual. A follow-up study in determining the effectiveness of the manual on a long-term basis on a practice of proper neck care made with a larger number of subjects.
