Abstract

The study was based on the Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 entitled "An act to enhance the mobility of the Disabled Persons by requiring certain buildings, institutions, establishments and public Uitlities to install facilities and other devices that will greatly uplift the said flight of many Filipino disabled". The main objective is to study the architectural accessibility of De La Salle University-Aguinaldo for the disabled person in compliance with the Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 (Accessibility Law). The specific objective are (1) to assess if the architectural features essential for an accessible institution are present in De La Salle University-Aguinaldo based on Batas Pambansa bilang 344; (2) to identify the architectural barrier in the De La Salle University Aguinaldo. Hopefully, the results of the study can be used by the administrators of De La Salle University-Aguinaldo in making appropriate renovations in their buildings particularly for colleges that encourage the enrollment of the disabled individual. The survey instrument used in the study was a form based on the minimum requirements for an accessible education institution as provided by Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 (Accessibility Law). The instruments is a 16 item checklist. This form records the presence or absence of architectural features in the area being evaluated. The number and specifications of different design elements was measured, describe an recorded in the survey instrument. The data were reviewed, summarized statistically for analysis. The data were presented in the form of tables. The findings obtained were as follows: (1) the administration and the Arts and Science Building are found lacking of accessible architectural features such as elevators, ramps, handrails, water fountains and place of assembly such as auditorium. (2) most of architectural features present did not comply with Batas Pambansa bilang 344 (Accessibility Law) and therefore needs modifications
