Abstract
The study was conducted with the objectives of determining the effectiveness of role playing in developing positive concept formation about disabled peers among the selected 10 year old students of the Elementary Department of Collegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba, Laguna. The study also aimed to compare the pre-study or pre-role playing and past-role playing concepts about disabled peers among the selected 10 year old students. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Fifty subjects were randomly picked by lot from the eighty four, ten year olds. A pre-activity instrument was given to 50 randomly selected respondents to determine the pre-study or pre-role playing concepts about disabled peers. The role playing with focus on the subject's interaction with disabled peers was introduced. The pre and post-activity instrument was translated into tagalog used to compare the subject's positive and negative concepts about disabled peers. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. Based on the results of the study, role playing bodied children towards disabled children. As the subjects interact in the given situations on the role playing, they became sensitive to others, especially to the needs of their disabled peers, the subjects learn to consider consequences by taking roles and learning how it feels to be in the receiving and of an action. During the process of role playing, the subjects learn to explore their feelings, gain insights into their attitudes, values, and perceptions and were able to explore subject matter in varied ways. It is strongly recommended that this study be repeated to scientifically positive concept formation of able-bodied children towards disabled children. Future research may potentially be used to promote more positive concepts towards physical disabilities such as reach out programs wherein children will learn to deal with the disabled.
