Abstract

This descriptive study was done to describe the reaction of Grades 1 and 2 student of Paaralang Elementarya ng Bagong Bayan B, Dasmariñas, Cavite SY '94 '95 to hypothetical situation regarding disabled children. Data were gathered through picture presentation and questionnaire distributed to 100 respondents chosen through simple quota sampling. The instrument was translated into Tagalog. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency, percentage, and mean. Based on the findings, exposure to disabled children are not blood related. There is a 1 year exposure for majority of the respondents. Majority of the respondents were exposed to disabled children. Those who were exposed to disability reacted favorably to the situation presented to them. Only few for those who were unexposed acted unfavorably. Therefore proper exposure of a normal child to disability at the very early age will help him accept disabled people and learn to relate to them positively, thus develop a positive attitude. Children with disability should not be alienated and should interact with normal children so that the former will develop a more desirable trait, more positive attitude, attractive and wholesome not only to normal society but also to the disabled.
