Abstract

Beginning body-builders need to have the basic knowledge about body-building to successfully reach their goal without experiencing the so called post-exercise problems. For the above reason, the authors conducted a study aimed at developing a manual for the beginning body-builders and tested its effectiveness in increasing the beginners knowledge in how to prevent post-exercise problems. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 20 respondents were male beginning body builders in the three (3) gyms in Las Piñas chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Data was analysed using percentage, mean, T-test, and standard deviation. Based on the results, almost all beginning body-builders experienced the so called post-exercise problem due to several misconceptions about body-building. The manual was considered only effective in partially increasing the knowledge of beginning body-builders in the prevention of post-exercise problems. However there are still some aspects of the manual which need to be improved such as addition of more exercise programs. Revision of the manual by other experts was recommended as well as determining the effectiveness of the manual on a long-term basis
