Abstract
A survey was done at Immaculate Conception Academy, Dasmariñas, Cavite to determine the knowledge and attitudes of high school students regarding AIDS. The sample population consisted of 400 students per year level were selected and were administered pre-tested questionnaires. The data were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive method. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. The areas in which the students have the least knowledge regarding AIDS concerns the mode of transmission (through breast milk), the clinical manifestation of an HIV infected person and the effectivity of the condom in preventing HIV infection. On the other hand, the students have more knowledge concerning abstinence as the best way to avoid getting HIV, the presence of HIV in semen, vaginal fluids and blood and the cause of AIDS. Overall, however, the knowledge of the student is not sufficient to help them avoid getting HIV. Thus, it is recommended that AIDS awareness and education be intensified and must include activities which will help in correct and proper attitude formation.
