Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to identify the common disabilities that are present in Barangay Burol II, Bagong Bayan, Dasmariñas, Cavite. Data were collected by the researchers, together with the barangay health workers through house -to house survey using an interview schedule from 160 respondents were household heads with a total population of 1,280. Sample population was chosen based on a systematic random sampling. The data from the questionnaire was tallied, tabulated, and analyzed. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. Data showed that 215 members of the community had either single or multiple disabilities. A total number of 324 disabilities were identified. Results showed that the most predominant disabilities were physical and visual disabilities. The three most common causes of physical disabilities are arthritis, pulmonary diseases, and low back pain. physical disabilities were common among male under middle adulthood, married and mostly construction workers while visual disabilities were common among female in their late adulthood , married and to among unemployed members of the community. The researchers recommend that a community assembly be conducted in the study area to inform the people about the presence of disability problems in their family members should participate if any health education programs/seminars will be given to them. Furthermore, it is recommended that members of the rehabilitation team, particularly the physiatrists and physical therapist, be part of the total CBR program in this community.
