Abstract
Arthritis is a disease which affects the patients general lifestyle including his mobility, activities of daily living, work and even his or her sexuality. The effects of arthritis are often changing and unpredictable whether the condition is local or systematic, acute or chronic. Patients affected with arthritis would often have sexual complaints as a results of mechanical problems associated with reduced Range of Motion, pain and stiffness. Recent studies of DLSU-HSC PT Interns Batch '95 has revealed that sexuality is still very much important for arthritis patients. This prompted the present researchers to conduct a follow-up study on the effectiveness of an existing manual or which aims to provide basic information for arthritis couples especially with regards to sexuality. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to seven (7) respondents were diagnose case of arthritis by a medical practitioner in Barangay Biluso, Silang Cavite chosen through sample quota sampling. The instrument was translated into Tagalog, and used pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Data was analysed using frequency percentage, mean, and T-test. Results of the study showed a significant increase in the knowledge of the participants based on their scores in the post-test exam. The topic in which the patients had the least knowledge in the pre-test was about the correct positions for the prevention of pain on specific joints. The present authors therefore can conclude that the manual and the seminar given been effective tools in providing basic information for arthritic couples regarding common sexual problems and their management. A similar study to be conducted in other areas in the town of Silang, Cavite aims to provide basic information to arthritic couples in the same way is should be could with the seminar to serve as a supplement in their learning.
