Abstract

The Magna Carta for disabled persons provide a way for the integration of disabled persons into the mainstream of society. Disabled persons have the same right to be free from discrimination one of which is on transportation which increase the gravity of limitation suffered by our already handicapped fellowmen. An intensive training program to ensure successful transfer of disabled passengers to all trainees was adapted and use of training manual was designed for distribution to all trainees. This descriptive study is aimed to determine the effectivity of training program in education Banaga Taxi Company taxi of training program in education Banaga Taxi Company taxi drivers in assisting disabled passengers on public vehicles. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 15 respondents were taxi drivers at Banaga Taxi Company, Sucat, Parañaque chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires and translated into Tagalog. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage, mean, and T-test. Post-test exam showed that only 13.3% Banaga Taxi drivers has an adequate knowledge on how to assist disabled passengers with ease due to the fact that most of them are not aware of the needs of theses significant increase in the knowledge of the participants based on their performance in the post-test exam which showed 73.3% of the respondents passed as compared to the percentage of passing in the pre-test exam. the authors therefore conclude that the training program formulated based on the manual was effective in increasing the knowledge of Banaga Taxi drivers regarding assisting disabled passengers. The proponents would therefore recommend further study in this field especially in establishing thorough demographic data of potential users of the manual and its training program.
