Abstract

The DLSU-HSC in the support of the World Health Organizations Goals of "Health for all by the year 2000", and in accordance with its college mission statement, has tried to establish a community based rehabilitation program in the province of Cavite although with no avail. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 16 respondents were barangay health workers in Sitio Buisan Langkaan II, Dasmariñas, Cavite chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires and translated into Tagalog. Data collected were analyzed using frequency percentage, mean, and T-test. Based on the findings, majority of whom belonged to age group of 30 to 35 years old and had only finished elementary education. A study showed that a training program on basic PT and Rehabilitation Technique on the treatment of Arthritis for Barangay Health Workers is an effective tool in facilitating the dissemination of information regarding Arthritis. However, it was strongly recommended that a formal, structured training program be given to reinforce the manual and assure a very high level of learning. Results of the study showed an increasing in the knowledge of the participants based on their performance in the written exams. The authors therefore conclude that a structured, formal training program is effective in educating barangay health workers on the treating Arthritis. A follow-up study involve a larger group of barangay health workers with expert in Arthritic rehabilitation as trainers is strongly recommended.
