Abstract
Traumatic Head Injury is an increasingly prominent problem in Rehabilitation medicine which can have a devastating impact not only on the patient by also on the family who suffers from the losses and carries the burden of the permanently changed lifestyle of the patient. Care of Traumatic Brain injured patients does not end after discharge to hospital and rehabilitation center. The patient has been re-evaluated by the researchers often being discharged from the hospital and rehabilitation center for the purpose of knowing the present problems being encountered by the patient at home and his environment, and designing an appropriate treatment plan which aimed at addressing these present problems. Patient is independent in all aspects of ADL but experiences difficulty in dressing due to inability with one hand. The patient, D.C., is a 39 y/o married, right handed male jeepney driver from Silang Cavite was evaluated to have slight weakness on (L) shoulder flexion & external rotation, (L) knee flexion, and (L) ankle dorsiflexion, grade 1 spasticity on (L) UE/LE which leads to secondary problems of the patient such as postural deviation and gait deviation; and 25% sensory deficit on (L) UE/LE as to pain, light touch and deep pressure. Present problems of patient not only encompass the physical finding evident on patient but also includes architectural and living arrangement problems. This is important for therapy is not only confined at any rehabilitation centers but most important at home. This could also improve the patient's level of independence thereby achieving the highest goal of rehabilitation, for home dictates the ease and comfort in which a person can move and function. The patient & family was taught by the researchers with regards to the daily exercises AAROME with gentle passive stretching on (1) shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, PRES on (B) UE/LE with the use of dumbbells and ankles weights daily ambulation exercises on the level ground. Patient was taught energy conservation techniques to minimize energy expenditure.
